Elizabeth's Baptism

Last month Elizabeth was baptized into the Catholic church in a gloriously communal ceremony. The service took place in a grand house of worship, and it was shared with many members of her own family as well as several other babies and their equally proud families. I was so pleased to give her, and us, the opportunity to witness her welcome into the faith in such a public setting. It was a joyful, fitting contrast to Elizabeth's initial baptism, which was sacred in part because of its intimacy.

We were also proud to officially acknowledge two important people in Elizabeth's life: her godmother, Aunt Caroline Brantley and her godfather, Honorary Uncle Dan Grattan. Caroline flew in from Washington D.C. for the event and Danny came in from New York City. Elizabeth is so lucky to have these two generous, talented, loving, kind, and faithful people charged with shaping her spiritual development. The influence of these two on our own lives has been immeasurable, and we are confident they will make just as positive an impact on the life of their goddaughter. It was not easy for either of them to make the trip down here. We are thankful that they did.

Here are some pictures from the weekend.

Danny reads a book to Amanda -- something he did over and over again throughout the weekend.

Caroline entertains Elizabeth during the service. The baby never fussed or complained, due in large part to the attention her aunt lavished on her.
